Veterans Student Support Services

The Veterans Student Support Services are available to veterans, active service members, National Guard members and reservists. To help you succeed in your studies, the program provides numerous services:

Veterans Upward Bound

If you are a veteran, National Guard member, or reservist who is interested in starting your education, Veterans Upward Bound can help!

The mission of East Central University’s Veterans Upward Bound Program, in support of the University and the Division of Student Development, is to provide U.S. military veterans with support services that ensure they have the motivation and skills to enter and graduate from a post-secondary institution. This federally funded grant program is available to U.S. military veterans, National Guard members and reservists. Trained academic counselors are available to assist you in preparing for any vocational/technical school or college and all services are free.

Veterans Upward Bound services include:

  • Identifying career goals and your program of study
  • Obtaining military and other transcripts
  • Financial aid assistance
  • GI Bill® information
  • Instruction/tutoring in English, math, etc.
  • Prep for entrance exams
  • Workshops in time management and study skills
  • Academic counseling

VA School Certifying Official

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) School Certifying Official will provide information regarding the filing of forms and certification of GI Bill® benefits for Veterans and dependents using those benefits. Questions about the benefits available are encouraged, and appropriate resources will be suggested for additional information. Please contact Patrick Hicks at 580-559-5134 or phicks@ecok.edu.

The office is located on the first floor of the Administration Building, room 110. Office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The VA Regional Office extends the use of a free call-in line (1-888-GIBILL1 or 1-888-442-4551) for all Veterans and dependents who have questions pertaining to situations not expressly covered under benefits administered by the office at East Central University (ECU).

ECU GOLD Program

The GOLD (Guard Officer Leadership Development) Program is a challenging leadership program available to ECU students and Oklahoma National Guard Soldiers attending East Central University. GOLD creates the next generation of National Guard leaders.
